Christmas Tree Characters

Nelson Pine 🌲 needs a bit of help.

It’s December! We all know what that means: Christmas is coming!

But Nelson Pine is struggling to get into the festive spirit!

Let’s gather a few materials and tools and make him look his best for the day!

Materials needed:

A4 Green card

  • Green paper

  • You could also paint or colour your own green card and green paper

  • A little bit of white paper or googly eyes

  • Pompoms / scrunched up tissue paper balls for baubles

  • Little pine cones

  • Stars

  • Any decorations you wish to add to make your trees really festive!

Tools:

  • A black pen

  • Scissors

  • A glue stick

Start by drawing a large pine tree shape on your card and then cut it out.

(See Greg’s video to learn how to draw Nelson’s shape)

Next, cut lots and lots of thin strips of green paper. Snip them into approximately 5 cm long rectangles.

Now glue the little strips into teardrop shapes by bending them and folding them so that the two ends meet at the top, glue in between and press. Repeat this process to make enough of them so it can cover the entire pine tree.

When you’ve made as much as you need (you can also make some as you go along too) starting at the base of the tree, glue the « branches » onto the tree: placing them loop down and flat part up as in the picture. Continue till you’ve gone from one side to the other. Next add some more above that and carry one till you’ve reached the top!

Nelson will look great with a star on his head and lots of bauble pompoms or pine cones or even scrunched up tissue paper balls.

Cut out two oval eyes and add the black pupils with a pen, then stick them onto the pine tree to make Nelson.

You can make more trees and help Nelson feel really cosy.
