Magic wand stained-glass cookies
Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch of salt
1 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Hard / boiled sweets
You will also need:
A mixing bowl
A mixer or a whisk
A wooden spoon
Non stick baking parchment or a non stick baking tray
Two star shaped cookie cutters: a large one and a small one.
You can use any other shape you like as long as you cut out a smaller shape from the center to put your boiled sweet in.
If you don’t have a cookie cutter, use a cup to make round biscuits and cut out smaller circles with a bottle lid or an egg cup.
Instructions
In a bowl, mix together the sugar and the softened butter for about two minutes until the mixture is smooth.
Add the egg and beat well.
Add the vanilla and the salt, then slowly mix in the flour till it’s thoroughly combined.
Remove the dough from the bowl and
squash it together in a thick flat round shape, cover it and chill it in the fridge for at least an hour or up to one day before you plan to bake your cookies.
The dough will need to be cold for the cookie cutters to work properly.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit / 175 degrees Celsius
Line a flat oven pan with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat.
On your work surface, roll the dough into a 1/2 inch thick rectangle with a lightly floured rolling pin.
Stamp out the cookies using the large star shape first and remove the excess from around the edges.
Using the small star cookie cutter, stamp out the centre of the star shaped dough and carefully remove it.
You can use excess dough to make more cookies.
Carefully lift your cookies with a spatula and place them on a nonstick baking paper or baking tray.
Push a wooden skewer carefully in each star starting at a point where there’s more dough.
Place a sweet in the middle of each star.
Now with an adult, put your baking tray in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
When the time is up, ask an adult to remove the star magic wands from the oven.
Leave them on the tray to cool completely before moving them: this will allow the centre to harden.
Share, make a spell and enjoy!
CAUTION!
Baking tray will be hot
