Owls from cardboard tubes
Materials and tools
Cardboards tubes (such as empty loo rolls)
Paint / paint sticks / felt tips / crayons
Tissue paper / old magazines with pretty coloured paper to cut out
Feathers
Tape
Scissors
Glue
For the face:
foam / felt / card
For the eyes:
White and black chalk-markers
OR Black felt tip, white paper, hole punch
OR Googly eyes
Start by painting or colouring your cardboard tube. You could also glue tissue paper onto it, or even cut out colourful paper bits from magazines to decorate it.
Next, fold the top of the tube so that it’s flat and press the two corners.
Then, push the two sides of the top inwards to create the owl's head. It will curve and the two sides will meet in the middle to close the top of the tube.
Out of felt, card or foam sheet, cut out a heart shape for the face and glue it to the front of the owl.
For the eyes, you could use googly eyes, or draw them with a circle with a white chalk pen and then mark a black dot inside, or you could cut out a white circle from paper either with scissors or with a hole punch and then put a black dot in the middle.
Decorate your owl with feathers, rolled up balls of tissue paper or pretty decorative tape…anything you like.
Why don’t you make a little family and play with them for a while before displaying them.
